Atacama Desert
High and dry – a unique landscape experience
San Pedro de Atacama is the main base for exploring the expansive wilderness of the driest desert in the world. Hidden amongst the dusty streets and adobe buildings of this historic and alluring village are some of the most stylish and comfortable hotels to be found in Chile, offering a luxurious haven after a day out driving, walking or riding through the desert.
Day excursions can be tailored to suit walkers and riders of all abilities, or alternatively perhaps drive out to see the multi-coloured lakes and flamingos in the Los Flamencos National Reserve, the lunar landscape of the ‘Moon Valley’ or visit the Tatio Geysers at dawn.
The huge vistas, clear atmosphere and volcanic backdrop are a truly inspiring reminder of an emptier world. For those wishing to venture further afield, road transfers can be arranged to cross the border and enter the Argentine Northwest.
