Tierra AtacamaSan Pedro De Atacama, Chile

The Tierra Atacama is a striking, purpose-built glass and steel boutique with stunning views of local mountain ranges and volcanos.

The vision of the Purcell family, long time owners of the Ski Portillo, famous in Chile for its skiing, fine dining and warm hospitality, it is situated over five hectares, just on the edge of charming oasis town San Pedro de Atacama.

Minimalist design drawing on adobe, stone, rough-hewn wood and other local materials mean the hotel and gardens appear to effortlessly complement the more severe desert surrounds while, from within, its interiors combine a sleek modern feel with volcanic rock and the warmth of local rugs, textiles and art.

Accommodation is divided between the 16 Oriente and 14 Poniente suites, all of which come with private terraces, in and outdoor showers, central heating and air conditioning, wifi, hairdryer and safe. For families there is also the options of two suites, connected by an internal staircase, that can sleep up to six. Although the Poniente suites are actually slightly larger, with their four poster beds and simply stunning views of the Licancabur Volcano, we consider the Orientes to a real jewel in the Tierra Atacama’s crown!

The restaurant serves healthy gourmet food using the best locally sourced specialities and boasts an extensive range of truly excellent Chilean wines. The beautifully cultivated aromatic gardens, orchard and fields are not to be missed – a wonderfully tranquil location for sitting and enjoying the Atacama’s unique peace and views.

For further relaxation, the excellent spa features an infinity pool and Jacuzzi, outdoor wooden hot-tubs, steam room and Turkish baths as well as a range of massages, facials and body treatments and alternative therapies using local ingredients.

Shortly after your arrival, the head guide will meet with you to select the best suited excursions from a flexible programme of two half-day or one full-day excursions; walks, treks, horseback or bicycle rides and scenic tours.
