Awasi AtacamaSan Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Located behind unobtrusive gates close to the centre of the historic village of San Pedro de Atacama, the Awasi Atacama is an oasis within an oasis.

Constructed in 2006 in the local ‘adobe’ style, the walls are a warm terracotta colour and much use is made of local timber and fabrics to create a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. There are only 10 rooms and all food, drinks and daily tours are included. All of the rooms have a minimum size of 60 square metres and include private patios and outdoor showers.

Guests benefit from having their own guide and 4-wheel drive vehicle for the duration of their stay and we found that this gives you tremendous flexibility to pick and choose where you want to go and to ensure that activities are planned at the right level of physical exertion. Gentle walks, tougher treks, horse and bike riding, astronomy tours, bird watching and trips to see the stunning geology, topography, flora and fauna are all possible. We would certainly recommend going to see the geysers one day at dawn, but make sure you wrap up warm! And a full day trip up to the Altiplano is also highly recommended.

The personalised ‘tailor-made’ ethos of staying here permeates through the entire experience, including the Chef Juan Pablo Mardones preparing food to your requirements and tastes and introducing you to different ingredients from the desert. The meals that you eat will be a highlight of your stay and the service is exemplary.

To complement a stay in Atacama, the hotel’s sister property, Awasi Patagonia, offers an equally spectacular experience in the south of the country. The two Chilean hotels have now also been joined by a brand new property in Argentina, the Awasi Iguazú.
