MATE Gallery
Most of our guests will pass close by to MATE (Museo Mario Testino) whilst exploring the bohemian and artistic Barranco District of Lima on foot. This small museum is housed in an old colonial style mansion which is worth a visit in itself.
Founded by Mario Testino in 2012 after 35 years of living and working outside Peru, the permanent collection is a showcase of Testino’s photographs, but the museum also hosts a dynamic programme of exhibitions and events. The best known exhibit are the photographs of Princess Diana including the last photo shoot taken of her in July 1997 for Vanity Fair magazine, which is housed in its own pavilion.
As well as photos of models, musicians and actors, there is a display of Alta Moda which showcases traditional Peruvian costumes and way of life. The museum is at the lighter end of Lima’s contemporary art scene, but combines well with other museums nearby and is particularly convenient for guests staying at the Hotel B.
