Yacht Charters on Brazil's Costa Verde by Paraty
Aquamarine coastal waters, gentle tide conditions, good winds and plenty of sheltered anchorages – the coast around Paraty midway between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil is tailor-made for a perfect private yacht charter holiday. Yet until 2016 there has been virtually no opportunity to explore this stunning coastline on a yacht. That has changed and we tried out a three day charter in August 2016 with Marc’s cousin, his wife and their two children to test it for a family holiday. It was great fun and this now offers a very exciting alternative for those already familiar with Mediterranean and Caribbean yacht charters.
Paraty is one of the ‘must-see’ destinations in Brazil and its sheltered position and deep waters are two reasons for it becoming the main port for exporting gold and silver during the colonial period. Today we can offer a choice between a Jeanneau 379, 439, 509, or a Lipari 41 catamaran to go off and explore the islands and fjords nearby, or sail the four hour crossing to Isla Grande.
The boats are new and well equipped, and can be chartered on either a bare boat basis (with appropriate certificates of competency) or with a skipper, whose knowledge of the local waters will enable you to overnight in amazing remote spots and whose skills on the barbecue are also welcome!
A yacht charter is particularly suitable for Family holidays, with frequent stops to swim, snorkel or go stand-up paddle boarding, or visit the waterfall behind Praia Grande (our favourite beach in Brazil). And there are numerous opportunities to stop for a caipirinha and some wonderful garlic prawns in one of the many simple coastal restaurants.

Top tip: Remember that the port and starboard navigation marks leading into a port are reversed in North and South America, different to the rest of the world!
