Accommodation
Puerto BembergIguassu, Argentina
The Iguassu Falls and National Park can get very busy in the high season and the Puerto Bemberg is an ideal place to get away from the crowds.
The hotel is a refurbished inn from the 1940s, set in a 400 hectare estate of Atlantic jungle with views over the Parana River towards Paraguay. It is only half an hour away from the falls. (There are closer places to stay if proximity to the falls is your top priority, but for some guests some distance from the central tourist attraction may be a boon.) The 14 rooms are very comfortable rather than luxurious and the staff are very friendly. There is an intimate restaurant, a living room and library, a well-stocked wine cellar and a pool. There are also a watchtower and observation deck with magnificent views of the surroundings.
The hotel employs its own naturalist who will arrange accompanied walks down to the Parana River for guests who want to experience the national park as well as the falls (which we highly recommend. There are trail-walks through the jungle, boating on the river and mountain biking to visit amethyst mines on offer.
This is a place of relaxed, unpretentious tranquillity in the jungle.
