Accommodation
Hotel Terra BaricharaSantander, Colombia
The 20 rooms at Terra Barichara are modern, clean, spacious and warm, with terracotta floor tiles and earthen colours throughout. They have terraces and hammocks for relaxation. The Trattoria Terra restaurant reflects the joint Colombian/Italian ownership, with Mediterranean cuisine prepared using organic produce from the hotel’s garden and a good selection of Argentinian and Italian wines (although we also enjoyed heading into town to eat at the plethora of dining options there as well.) Continuing the relaxation theme the traditional Maloka spa offers massages, treatments, a hydroponic pool, a swimming pool and a small gym. The hotel is surrounded by attractive gardens.
There are low key, tranquil activity options nearby as well, just minutes away are art exhibits in Casa de la Cultura Emilio Pradilla González, the beautiful Cathedral of Barichara and cultural tours to partake in. However, for adrenaline seekers, the Santander Department is the adventure sports capital of Colombia. From the nearby town of San Gil you can go paragliding, river kayaking, canyoning and mountain biking. There are also a multitude of trekking trails to explore.
