In our opinion, the only place to stay while visiting the archeological park of San Agustín and Tierra Adentro is boutique hotel Monasterio San Agustín. Run by two German expats and tour organisers, this Monasterio San Agustín is situated in a restored finca and coffee farm surrounded by the green ’sierras’, in the sleepy town of San Agustín.

The hotel offers 15 Junior and Presidential Suites decorated in earthy tones with adobe walls and traditional chimneys. Each of the rooms has a terrace that overlook the lush valleys below.

The main building of the finca features an interesting little coffee museum and an observation deck with excellent views for guests to visit. The hotel restaurant serves a fusion of traditional Colombian and Mediterranean dishes.

The pre-hispanic sculptures of San Agustín, declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1995, are a short drive away, making Monasterio San Agustín the perfect place to stop for a night or two.
