Belmond Hotel Rio SagradoSacred Vallley, Peru
Set on the banks of the Urubamba River, this Belmond Hotel is built to resemble an Andean village. It’s at a lower altitude to nearby Cusco, so is a great place to relax and acclimatise.
The hotel has 10 rooms, 11 Junior suites and 2 villas for up to 6 people, which are great for families. All of the buildings are made from traditional, natural materials with the interiors decorated simply with polished wooden floors and white walls with large windows and colourful Peruvian textiles. The El Huerto restaurant serves traditional Peruvian cuisine, and you can even handpick your own produce from the garden for your meal. The pool is serviced by Unu Bar and has a great view overlooking the mountains.
There are plenty of activities to indulge in from a guided tour of the local gardens with the head gardener, to kayaking and rafting on the river or mountain biking and trekking in the Andes. You can also immerse yourself in some traditional Andean ceremonies or have a Coca leaf reading.
