Accommodation
Belmond Hotel Rio SagradoSacred Vallley, Peru
Set in attractive gardens on the banks of the Urubamba River, the verdant green lawns are grazed by alpacas and there is a constant background sound of flowing water, making this a wonderful place to relax after a busy day’s sightseeing in the Sacred Valley. This Belmond Hotel is built to resemble an Andean village, with the rooms and suites located in casitas around the garden, all set against the backdrop of mountains. It’s at a lower altitude to nearby Cusco, so is a great place to relax and acclimatise at the start of a visit to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
The hotel has 10 rooms, 11 Junior suites and 2 villas for up to 6 people, which are great for families. All of the buildings are made from traditional, natural materials with the interiors decorated simply with polished wooden floors and white walls with large windows and colourful Peruvian textiles. The El Huerto restaurant serves traditional Peruvian cuisine, and you can even handpick your own produce from the garden for your meal. The pool is serviced by Unu Bar and has a great view overlooking the mountains.
There are plenty of activities to indulge in from a guided tour of the local gardens with the head gardener, to kayaking and rafting on the river or mountain biking and trekking in the Andes. And for those guests fortunate enough to be travelling on the luxury Hiram Bingham
