Sol y Luna sits within Peru’s Sacred Valley of the Incas and the local population trace their ancestry back to the great Inca empire that flourished here in the 13th to 16th centuries. The residence offers 44 private casitas set in beautifully maintained gardens. We love the artisitic touches everywhere – from the specially commissioned artworks by Federio Bauer to the exquisite French glass in the Spa.

There are three categories of casita: the superior casitas are charming and comfortable, while the deluxe and premium casitas offer spacious luxury. Facilities include a beautiful new pool area with poolside bar, a separate spa building made of local stone and stained glass where native healing meets modern pampering, and 25 acres of private gardens chock full of indigenous flowers and birds

Between the main hotel and the Rancho Wayra restaurant are the stables areas. The property maintains 25 Peruvian horses: some of these are for the daily horse shows; others are available for guests to ride. The hotel also offers gourmet menus with wine pairing, as well as cooking classes with the focus on blending innovative Peruvian cuisine with traditional Andean cooking methods and harvests. Machu Picchu is the obvious choice here, but there is plenty more to explore as well.

This is one of our favourite places to stay in Peru for both couples and families, both as a place to relax or to use as a base to explore the valley. It’s also worth noting that the owners, Petit and Franz, use the monies generated from Sol y Luna to run education projects for local children in the valley.
