Accommodation
Hotel Mama CucharaQuito, Ecuador
The hotel is located in a well preserved but slightly less busy part of Quito’s historic quarter, just a fifteen minute walk from the Plaza San Francisco, La Ronda and many of the city’s most famous sites.
Externally, the white stucco building has been impeccably restored, but internally much has been rebuilt. The rooms are split between the original restored building and a new wing, and are decorated in a modern boutique style to reflect building’s history.
A central courtyard has been covered over with a glazed roof to create a large atrium providing the hotel with an extensive seating area where breakfast and dinner are served. The ‘La Plaza’ restaurant is not open for lunch, but has already gained a very good reputation for its modern interpretation of Ecuadorean dishes.
One of the features of the hotel is the collection of modern paintings and sculptures, which are to be found both in the common areas and in the bedrooms. There is also a rooftop bar which takes advantage of the hotel’s position on top of a hill giving one of the best 360 degree scenic views in Quito.
