Accommodation
Monasterio del VientoProvidencia, Colombia
Turn back the clock and experience what a visit to the Caribbean must have been like 50 years ago: the hotel has no WiFi, no mobile reception, and a discreet, homely laid-back approach to life which most guests can only dream of today. This is not the place to stay for those wishing to monitor their work emails.
Providencia has slipped under the radar and the Monasterio del Viento is the smaller and ‘less designer’ of the two hotels which we use on the island. It exemplifies the island’s relaxed way of living. It is run by a charming young couple and has just four rooms, brightly decorated in white, pastel blues and with brightly coloured fabrics, and with views out over the turquoise sea to match. The two larger rooms have en-suite bathrooms, the two smaller rooms share a bathroom.
Guests can relax in the pool or on the small private beach area, shaded by palm trees. Further afield, the hotel can arrange boat trips to go fishing or simply visit other beaches and uninhabited offshore Cayes. Yoga and massages can be arranged. Meals are prepared by your host Rodrigo and on top of the local fish you can try delicacies such as conch.
This is the ultimate hotel in which to unwind and forget about the ‘real’ world.
Here’s the video from our first guest on the island enjoying a special moment of Caribbean Folk Music.
