Waldorf AstoriaPanama City, Panama

Newly opened in 2013, this is the first Waldorf Astoria in Latin America. The hotel offers stylish design, spacious rooms, top class service and a great location in the heart of modern hi-rise Panama City.

With 130 rooms and 70 residences (master suites) set over 34 floors, this is a fairly large hotel yet it still manages to offer a personal touch.

We were very struck with the stylish design of the public areas and the lifts – distinctive and different. The rooms and suites are modern and spacious, whilst those on the upper floors offer ocean views.

The hotel offers a decent size swimming pool on the 7th floor, along with a large and well-equipped gym and a Spa which is open daily. Dining options include the Brio Brasserie for all-day dining and in the evenings Ginger Restaurant and Bar (which is curiously designed within the wooden hull of a large boat) offers Japanese sushi.

We found the $13/day charge for using the WiFi irritating, but overall think that the Waldorf Astoria is one of the best options for those wishing to stay in the modern city.
