Accommodation
Latitude 10North Pacific Coast, Costa Rica
Latitude 10 is an intimate boutique hotel with just five private ‘casitas’ (bungalows) set amongst the trees in Santa Teresa village on the Pacific coast. The feel is very much that of staying at a friend’s beach retreat – and indeed, this property was originally designed and built as a private residence.
The emphasis is on nature and the natural setting: no trees were cut down in building this eco-hotel and there is no air-conditioning in the casitas, which are shaded by the trees, and rely on cooling sea breezes through the open (but mosquito-netted) windows and ceiling fans.
The two master suite casitas are particularly spacious and are set right on the beachfront. All casitas have open-air bathrooms to the rear, which add to the natural feel. There is a swimming pool to the front of the bar/dining area and a massage room upstairs.
With personalised service and a fine attention to detail, guests can enjoy drinks and meals in the bar/dining area or can wander out into the neighbouring village, where there are plenty of other dining options.
Our main caveat about this charming property is that the beach directly in front of the hotel is not really suitable for swimming, as there are a lot of rocks. However, there are excellent swimming beaches about ten minutes’ walk in either direction.
