Hotel del ParqueGuayaquil, Ecuador
The Hotel del Parque stands in the middle of the 8 hectare Parque Histórico, surrounded by a botanical garden with wildlife including exotic birds and monkeys. The setting is tranquil, yet the hotel is only a fifteen-minute drive from the international airport.
The building was carefully dismantled in the centre of Guayaquil and rebuilt in this location, together with some other rescued buildings, during the 1980’s. It took some time to find a new use for it until the Oro Verde Hotels Group came to the rescue and turned it into a magnificent hotel which opened in 2016. No expense has been spared and the 44 rooms are generously proportioned by the standard of any city centre hotel.
The building also encompasses a magnificent old church, complete with baroque altar piece and pulpit, which is sometimes used for weddings. There are two tranquil courtyards in the centre of the building, one used for dining and the other with relaxed seating where you can have pre-dinner drinks.
The kitchen is overseen by Oro Verde chef Juan Carlos Ordoñez who trained in Buenos Aires and the service standards are excellent. This hotel is a perfect choice for guests who don’t want to stay in the city centre before or after a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
