This secluded island getaway is set in Lake Nicaragua, just 20 minutes by boat from Granada. Jicaro Island eco-lodge has just nine casitas set around the edge of the island, while the central communal facilities include a bar, restaurant, swimming pool and a small shop. There is also a spa which offers some of the best massage technique we experienced in the region.
The accommodation in duplex casitas is simple but comfortable, with a large bedroom upstairs while the living area, bathroom and private terrace are located on the ground floor.
The whole feel of the island is very intimate and ‘at one’ with nature and morning yoga is offered. There is also a ‘sustainability tour’ to a local school which the hotel supports. Other activities include morning bird watching from kayaks, boat trips to the other islands, artisanal fishing in the lake and various trips to the mainland.
We liked Jicaro for its simplicity and its ‘get-away-from-it’ feel as well as its charming and friendly service.
