Hangaroa Eco Village and SpaEaster Island, Chile

One of the excitements of visiting a remote island like Rapa Nui (the indigenous name for Easter Island) is to walk around the main settlement and get a feel for the place. Hangaroa Eco Village and Spa is ideally located for this, being within a short walking distance of the bars, restaurants and of course, the astro-turf soccer pitch of Hanga Roa.

There are 77 good sized rooms arranged in two terraces stretching away from the reception area and two restaurants. The further rooms are a bit far from the reception area for people with reduced mobility and some of the rooms are better than others with good views over the sea and more privacy. However, they are all generously sized and well furnished with local crafts and materials.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is excellent. Most excursions are in small groups of up to a maximum of ten people and the guides are very good. Private guides can be arranged and there are different board bases to choose from. We liked the fact that with the full board option an evening meal at the hotel can be changed for a restaurant meal in town.

The hotel does cater for a number of small groups but people should not be put off by our description of a resort-style hotel. Service is very good and the hotel is spacious.
