Accommodation
Gocta LodgeChachapoyas, Peru
This small lodge has long been popular with travellers who made the long journey from Lima to visit the famous waterfall and enjoy the good trekking options in the area. But as the area has opened up, the hotel has been upgraded and eight new higher quality rooms have just been completed, making a total of 18 rooms.
Set in attractive lawned gardens which are grazed by llamas, all the bedrooms have good views over the valley towards the Gocta waterfall, and the eight new rooms all have a humming bird theme. A small swimming pool is open at one end to make the most of the view and a spa is planned for the future.
The decoration of the dining room and bar area is very simple and the hotel still has the feel of a hostel which is popular with travellers and local tourists from Lima. However, the lack of sophistication is made up for by the friendly staff and great location.
