Accommodation
La Nube PosadaBarichara, Colombia
Behind an unassuming façade on a quiet street in Barichara, this colonial home has been transformed into a simple yet stylish boutique hotel with tasteful, minimalist design. The eight rooms feature vaulted ceilings and exposed wood beams and surround an abstract courtyard with cozy corners for reading and relaxing. There is no air-con, but fans and mosquito nets are provided. The corridors feature various sculptural art. The dining room, which lies between the courtyard and the charming garden to the rear, offers modern Colombian/International dishes served with flair.
Barichara is a perfect, picturesque, 300-year-old Spanish colonial town. It’s cobbled stone streets and buildings with packed earth walls, whitewashed facades and red-tiled roofs go well with the town’s laid back, bohemian lifestyle. Explore the ochre Church of the Immaculate Conception and try the local delicacy of hormigas culonas (fat-bottomed ants: eaten roasted. Strong-flavoured and salty, if you’re wondering!) We can also arrange a guided tour of the area on horseback if you wish, the befitting way to take in the scenery. Once you have had your fill of the calm and quiet, San Gil is just half an hour’s drive away and is packed with adventure sports to try your hand at: paragliding, rafting and rappelling, to name just a few.
