Vira ViraPucon, Chile's Lake District

The newly opened Vira Vira is the vision of Swiss financier Michael Paravicini and his wife Claudia who, after many years holidaying there, fell in love with the region and vowed to open its first luxury hotel.

Located on working farm and dairy, directly on the shores of the Liucura River and a freshwater lagoon, and surrounded by 10 acres of pristine parkland, Michael and Claudia’s loving influence can be clearly seen in the design and architecture, which makes use of sustainably harvested local wood, whilst the interiors have been created by Chilean designer Santiago Valdes.

The hotel offers three different types of accommodation: the main hotel rooms each with private terrace; tranquil riverside villa suites, named after local trees and each with an outdoor hot-tub and wood-burning stove; and the beautiful hacienda located nearby. Finally, there is the “ruca”, a 200m standalone lodge with a curved roof inspired by traditional dwellings of the indigenous Mapuche, which is used for on-site activities like cooking lessons, yoga art classes and wine tasting.

The main lodge contains a library, bar and restaurant, whose excellent cuisine incorporates the fresh produce, cheese and meat from the farm. As an additional activity, guests can even try their hands cheese-making.

Vira Vira is located close to some truly stunning and hardly touched natural reserves such as Huerque National Park and Lakes Villarrica and Tinquilco. At the start of your stay, the head guide will talk to you and help you decide which activities and group excursions you would like, with seasonal options as varied as horseback riding, river rafting, hiking, kayaking, sailing, fly-fishing, thermal pool visits, climbing Volcano Villarica in the summer and skiing, snow-shoeing or husky sledding in winter.
