Zank Boutique HotelSalvador, Brazil
The Zank is a small boutique hotel located on top of a hill in the Rio Vermelho district of Salvador, a bohemian area that was once the home of the writer Jorge Almado, and now more famous as a popular Salvadorian nightlife area.
The hotel is owned by three stylish sisters who designed the hotel themselves and, whilst there are differences by room an understated, clean style reigns throughout. There are 18 rooms, with the larger ones being in the nineteenth century front building and the standard rooms in the modern annexe to the rear. There is a small roof top swimming pool and glass-fronted terrace with views over the sea, a relatively quiet ground floor bar and a good restaurant serving Salvadorian seafood classics. Spa treatments are also available here.
This is a great choice if you are looking for a smaller, design conscious hotel slightly away from the centre with a fantastic view. The bars and restaurants of the Pelourinho and Barra districts are a 15-20 taxi drive away (the hotel keeps a couple of trusted drivers on hand).
