Reserva One LovePalomino, Colombia

This new hotel is the realisation of its owner’s dream to create an eco-hotel deeply rooted in the local community, employing staff from the nearby village. There are 8 very comfortable thatched round rooms, discreetly spaced and surrounded by attractive planting, each with its own plunge pool and outside shower. The main bar and relaxation area is open to the elements, with comfortable chairs and lots of books, and discreet background music giving it a cool vibe.

Meals are all included and cooked to order, typically combining local fish with local herbs and subtly flavoured ingredients, much of which is grown on site. The aim is to be showcasing the very best local ingredients and this definitely shows through – we found that all the meals were without exception outstanding.

The hotel is located on a sweeping curve of the Palomina River, which makes it’s way down from the highlands of the Sierra Nevada and by this stage is nearing the sea. Activities in the area include river tubing, trekking, and birdwatching. Indeed, floating down the Palomino river on a tube is a remarkable way to relax in silence and get a feeling of being very close to nature. Read more about birdwatching in the area in Emma Duncan’s colourful Economist 1843 feature on our press page.
