Estancia La BambaThe Pampas, Argentina

Less than 2 hours’ drive from Buenos Aires, in the Pampas region, lies the charming Estancia La Bamba which offers the perfect blend of luxury with traditional character in a welcoming and peaceful setting.

The estancia, which is one of Argentina’s oldest (dating back to 1830), offers a glimpse into the history of the legendary gaucho culture as well as the more modern day polo culture. La Bamba has its own polo team and training grounds, and the guest rooms are named after famous polo horses.

Each of the 11 rooms are decorated with colonial style furniture and Argentinian textiles, and come air conditioned. There are no TV’s, telephones or wifi in the rooms – making it the perfect place to completely switch off from the world outside.

There is an outdoor pool to cool down in from the heat of the Pampas on warm summer days, an outdoors barbeque dining area, and several cosy communal areas to retire to after a delicious meal of Argentinian asado. Breakfast is served in the pulperia (the oldest building on the estancia) in front of the fireplace on cold days – the homemade croissants are a must-try!

The grounds of the estancia have plenty of birdlife with white-browned blackbirds and different caracaras crowding the trees, and special excursions for birdwatchers can be arranged on request. For those wishing to explore the nearby historical town of San Antonio de Areco, often referred to as the prettiest town in the Pampas, the staff can help arrange transportation.
Guests are welcome to do several horse rides during a stay, and for us a leisurely horseback ride while the sun went down over the Pampas, provided the perfect activity before dinner during our stay at La Bamba de Areco.
