Colca LodgeColca Valley, Peru

Constructed with stone and rendered walls, and with thatched roofs, this lodge is intended to blend in with the surrounding landscape.

A highlight of the hotel are the four thermal pools down by the river which are fed by mineral-rich hot springs. These have been created by building walls out of local stones which blend in with the river, and is a great place for guests to relax and gaze at the stars after nightfall for a memorable experience. As you might expect, the Spa Eco Thermal makes the most of the good fortune to have hot spring waters rich in lithium, and treatments start in its own pool followed by a wide selection of massages and facial treatments.

The 45 rooms are in self-contained thatched ‘casitas’ or little houses, connected by paved paths and steps to the main reception area, bar and dining room. Some of these are particularly well suited for families. The rooms are quite simply furnished using natural colours which complement the wonderful views that can be enjoyed from each of them. All of the casitas are heated geothermally with natural stone slabs that are warmed by the spring waters and maintain a constant temperature.

The highlight of a visit to the Colca Canyon is the trek to a lookout point to view condors, and in particular to be able to look down on the condors from above (the canyon is almost twice as deep as the Grand Canyon!). Other activities available are visits to colonial-era churches, mountain biking, horse back riding and trekking.
