Belmond Hotel MonasterioCusco, Peru

Owned by the Belmond group and located in the heart of Cusco, just two blocks from the Plaza de Armas, the Hotel Monasterio is a converted monastery, which dates back to 1592. The vaulted stone ceilings and cloisters of the public areas impart a real sense of history while the 126 rooms/suites are well appointed with all mod cons. The architecture of the building is centred around a beautiful courtyard with a 300 year old cedar tree as the focal point. There is also a guilded chapel replete with artwork to escape for some peace and quiet, and if you need more afterwards you can book into the on-site therapy suite or beauty salon. Some of the rooms have oxygen systems fitted which can be used for an extra charge.

This is a popular hotel – and deservedly so. The food service here are particularly strong. We recommend taking the ‘art-cook-opera’ evenings on certain days of the week. This involves a 45 minute tour of the hotel with a focus on the artwork in the communal areas, followed by a cookery class and dinner in the El Tupay restaurant serving Peruvian cuisine accompanied by a Soprano and a Tenor singing opera.

It is also worth noting that, due to the previous purpose of the building, there is a large variation in size and specifications of the rooms at this hotel. We can certainly help you to navigate this to get the most from your stay; whether you have a specific budget in mind or would like to take advantage of one of the 5 VIP suites with their own private courtyard.
