The LibertadorArequipa, Peru
Following a much-needed refurbishment in 2012-13, the Libertador has been restored to its former glory.
This gracious hotel was designed in the 1930s and has spacious rooms, which have been very tastefully redecorated in warm colours. The hotel is set in three hectares of grounds with a large swimming pool and has a small farm, resident giant tortoise and swings and climbing frames, making it an ideal base for families.
The hotel is located in a residential area about 10 blocks from the Plaza de Armas, which makes it quieter than being in the heart of the city, but also requires a taxi for the short drive into the centre.
